Fernando Mateu

Fernando is a native of Venezuela; however he has lived in the US since the age of 10 when he fell in love with Tennis.   After teaching himself to play against a back-board, Fernando began taking lessons and playing tournaments by the age of 12.   While playing as a junior in Florida, he began giving lesson at after-school programs at the age of 15.   Soon thereafter, Fernando attended the University of Alabama where he volunteered as a trainer for the women's tennis team and earned his degree in International Economics.   After graduation, Fernando pursued a business career in International Business emphasizing on Logistics and Customer Service.   After many years in Business and owning his own Freight Forwarding Company, he decided to get back to what he loves which is teaching tennis and helping people to have fun with the game!

Due to requests from residents, Fernando began teaching tennis in his community to adults and children in April of 2010.   Fernando's focus is teaching children as well as beginner and intermediate Junior and Adult groups.  Until 2012, Fernando divided his kid's program between the Lake Houston YMCA and his community, Eagle Springs.  The USPTA "Little Tennis" program for kids from 4 to 10 years of age gained popularity, so Fernando focused his efforts in Eagle Springs where he currently has around 60 students.

In his spare time, Fernando loves to spend time with his wife and son and enjoys cooking for them.   One of his specialties is cooking Paella and is waiting for the day Bobby Flay comes knocking asking him for a Paella throwdown!
